Super Hero Bowl for Kids Sake Cochrane taking place March 22

"We were just shy of $17,000 last year," he said. "So we're definitely looking to beat this year's total and raise at least $17,000 or more. If we do that, then we'd hit $100,000 total and that would be huge for an event like this."

The annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area Super Bowl for Kids Sake Cochrane is back and ready to hit the bowling alley when the event takes place on March 22 at Cochrane Lanes.

"Bowl for Kids Sake is a fun, family-friendly, fundraising event that raises money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs in Cochrane," said David Case, spokesperson for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"This year, the theme is superheroes so we're asking people to find a team of superheroes, super-friends, and super-colleagues and bowl for kids' sake. These mentoring programs make a big difference in Cochrane."

With the event just a few weeks away, Case said there are still open spots available for those interested in registering a team. Last year's event hosted more than 100 people and over the course of the seven years of hosting it has raised more than $85,000 through fundraising.

"We can hold up to 24 teams, we had 24 teams last year and are looking to repeat that once again. We currently have 13 teams registered so we have room for 11 more teams," Case said. "There are three different time slots that can be registered for 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m on the 22nd. If somebody does want to register, they can do so at www.bbscochrane.ca/bowl where there is more information on the event and we will walk you through on how to register your team."

"It will also show you all the information for your fundraising page, something that each player will get and then they will be allowed to share the link on social media platforms and have people donate to your team."

Last year the event raised more than $16,000, a number that Case said they'd like to beat this go around.

"We were just shy of $17,000 last year," he said. "So we're definitely looking to beat this year's total and raise at least $17,000 or more. If we do that, then we'd hit $100,000 total and that would be huge for an event like this."

Case said preparation for this year's competition has been going really smoothly and should make the day of a lot easier to handle for organizers and volunteers.

"We have 11 sponsors so far, those are just community-oriented businesses from Cochrane who have teamed up with us and support the event," he said.

"We've got prizes for people who bowl strikes and all that too, so we're ready. It's ramping up very quickly here and I cannot wait to see the competition this year for the most spirited team award. Cochrane is certainly one of the hotly contested (for the spirit award) because the teams show up every year with incredible costumes so we cannot wait to see how high the stakes go for this year's contest."
