Though the Cobras and Bobcats tend to exhibit a friendly rivalry throughout most of the school year, Morgotch said the girls are excited to put any cross-town animosity behind them when it's time to kick off the rugby season.

The 2023 playoffs are around the corner for Cochrane's high-school boys' soccer teams.

Student-athletes from Cochrane ran, jumped, and threw their way to podium placements and personal bests on Thursday, during the South Central Zones high-school track-and-field championships, hosted at Foothills Athletic Park in Calgary.

The author’s talk on June 3, entitled 'If These Walls Could Talk' will be the subject of the third presentation in a series on local history, sponsored by the Cochrane Historical & Archives Preservation Society.

The Bow Valley Grizzlies senior men’s team dominated their opening game of the 2023 Calgary Rugby Union (CRU) season, shutting out the Calgary Knights 67-0 on May 13 at the Calgary Irish Rugby Park.

“Our mentality is to try to push people as far as they can go, and create a community of success and goal-setting so that people can really perform.”

Cochrane's local junior B team, the Rockyview Silvertips, have already played their first four matches of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse (RMLL) season, with mixed results thus far. 

“A lot of people have been congratulating me, which has been a really cool experience,” said Boychuk, a Cochrane native who has played the last two seasons with the Xtreme. “It’s really great to get drafted and see how things will go with that.”

Head coach for Trinity Taekwon-Do, Cameron Macdonald, said a team consisting of six colour belts, two black belts, and two umpires (Brenda Peacock and Tim Wuthrich) took part in the national tournament, which hosted over 600 competitors from across Canada.

“It’s a 1A/2A provincial championship we wanted, so for the size of our school, we’re the best in the province which was a great goal to attain,” he said.
