ANKERSTJERNE, Viola Kay (nee Black)
August 14, 1937 – January 30, 2020, Calgary, Alberta
Voila Ankerstjerne, beloved wife of Willy Ankerstjerne, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the age of 82 years.
Viola was born and raised in Calgary, AB, and lived briefly in Banff, AB, and Victoria, BC, before moving to Cochrane, AB, with Willy, where she raised her family and made life long friends affectionately known as ‘The Cochrane Crew’.
In Cochrane, Viola worked at the Cochrane Health Clinic and then at Manachaban School, and volunteered with The Dr. McQuitty Society and Cochrane Victim Assistance. Viola’s passion however, was her dogs. Whether they were puppies or seniors, she had a steady stream of Schipperke’s in the house throughout her life. Viola was a lifelong member of the Schipperke Club of Canada and she was very involved in showing and training dogs in both obedience and agility. She was an instructor with Rocky View Further Education and with Paw Z Tracks Agility. When she was not out training dogs, she was crocheting blankets or tending to her beautiful backyard garden.
Besides her loving husband Willy, Viola is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Doug Walker, and Karin and Scott Sargent; her three grandchildren, Tegan Walker, Gillian Walker, and Reid Sargent; and also by her dog Emi. Viola was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice (Bea) and Vylus (Vic) Black; and her sister Dolores Williamson.
