BOON, Heather Ann

August 10, 1934 – April 2, 2020

Heather Ann Boon passed away peacefully on Thursday April 2 after a long and challenging battle with Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her husband, Earl Roderick, their three daughters, Daphne, Penny (Mario) and Johanna, their 7 grandchildren, and her sister, Beryl Rothwell.

In the words of her daughters she so loved and they so loved her:

“Mother was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Dad enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains, golfing, gardening, cruising and travelling to visit their daughters and extended families.”

“Mother was known for always being loving, respectful and supportive to her family, friends and others. She treated everyone with kindness and accepted people without judgement. She always thought of others before herself, and during these current special times, she would want us to think of others. She was truly a genuine person. Heather and her million dollar smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”

“We have been so blessed to have such a caring, patient and empathetic mother and the love shared between Mom and Dad has been truly inspirational. We will cherish the many beautiful memories of you, Mom.”

Heather and Earl were married for 58 happy years. They loved their family and although far apart took every opportunity to visit. In their presence you could feel the special love they had for each other. A beautiful romance and wonderful life they shared and enjoyed together. They always felt they were so blessed. Heather’s graceful ways, touch, smile and kiss, will be missed by her sweetheart. She was a person full of fun with a keen dry sense of humour. She believed in Faith, Hope and Love and her daily life actualized all three. Her life was a model for all.

Heather and Earl bought their dream home in GlenEagles in 1996. She so enjoyed living in Cochrane and loved looking out the window in the great room at the beautiful view of the Canadian Rockies. She was a strong supporter of the Cochrane Rotary Club and over several years was a special friend to the Club’s many foreign Exchange Students.

Thank you to all the nurses, attendants and staff at the Cochrane Bethany Care Home. Their empathy and care for Heather was always exceptional.

Thank you to Marie-Linda Plante (TTogether), Heather’s independent Care Giver for the past five years. The professional and loving care Marie-Linda gave Heather was excellent. Also thank you to Shannon Lappin, Heather’s alternate Care Giver.

Thank you to Heather and Earl’s many Rotarian friends and their neighbours for being so kind and supportive during Heather’s long journey with Alzheimer’s.

A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Heather’s name may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, phone 403-290-0110.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.cochranecountryfuneralhome.com. Ph: 403-932-1039.
