SLOAN, Doris Anna Emily

August 18, 1929 – April 15, 2020

The dash in the middle of those dates is being reflected on as a wonderful and fulfilled life.  Doris was born in Birch Hills SK, raised in Weldon and Prince Albert SK, trained to be a nurse at Saskatoon City Hospital, married Langtry Willson Sloan and raised 2 daughters.  She lived large, from her love of sports, family and fun, to her ability to encourage anyone who needed a cheerleader.  Doris had the knack of being able to connect with people.  Her compassion as a nurse carried on long after the paychecks.  She opened her life up to people, was very willing to volunteer, be involved, and radiate sunshine at every opportunity.  She spent 45+ years singing harmony with Sweet Adeline’s and this provided her with deep friendships and wonderful experiences. Doris cared.  She invested in people throughout her life and was richly rewarded.

She always had a “trapline” of folks who enjoyed her visits for a haircut, support, cut flowers from her garden, a taxi service, a friend.  She looked for the good in everything, and showered that positivity on the folks around her.

She gardened and sewed, raised kids, she laughed, ran a household, she neighboured, was charitable, she read, she sang, she nurtured, she worshiped, she camped, and she laughed some more.

Her friendship knew no bounds.  Lately with the community at Grande Avenue Village, she kept her social skills honed by participating in many of the “goings on” and as always, made many dear friends among the residents and the staff.

She loved, and was loved.  90 years of life well lived.

She leaves behind her daughters Kim Washington (Howard), Tracy Buckley (John), grandchildren Trevor & Sandra Buckley, Eric & Robyn Buckley, great grandchildren Finn, Isla, and Rebecca.   To quote Doris “aren’t we blessed to have them in our lives?”  Yes Mom, and we are doubly blessed to have had YOU in our lives.

Due to current restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
