Calgary police seek suspect following assault of elderly man on train platform

CALGARY — Police in Calgary are searching for a suspect following an assault on a train platform that left an elderly man with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the alleged victim was at the Sunnyside CTrain station around 9 a.m. on Saturday when he was struck down onto the concrete platform and sustained severe head injuries.

The suspect fled the scene immediately.

Police later identified the suspect as 36-year-old Basil Sweezy, and they released several photos.

They say he has a prosthetic leg below his left knee.

Police say their Homicide Unit is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
