CALGARY — Police in Calgary have laid charges related to a February collision that killed a man and sent a woman and child to hospital.

They say in a news release that an SUV attempting to turn right on a busy thoroughfare failed to negotiate the curve, hitting two adults and a child in a stroller who were on a raised pedestrian island waiting to cross the road.

Police say the vehicle travelled across two additional raised islands before striking a snowbank.

The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but police say he was apprehended by officers a short time later.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman and child were taken to hospital with serious injuries and later released.

Calgarian Damon William Wilson, who is 29, faces six charges — including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
