Richards gears up to support grieving families

Banff-Airdrie Conservative MP Blake Richards wound down spring sessions in the House of Commons on a positive note, with his Motion 110 win in favour of gaining supports for families facing infant loss, although left with growing concerns over the economy. The three-term representative was disappointed, however, in the Liberals' decision to renew the equalization formula through 2024 - a formula that was supposed to be reviewed next year. "It's a finger in the eye of our province," said Richards, adding that nearby Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe's added voice for reform fell on deaf ears. " ... with Alberta struggling, it would have been a good time to fight for fairness for Albertans." Richards said that from the federal carbon tax to the "Liberals' failure on critical energy projects," Albertans have been hard hit and need some reprieve to their pocketbooks until the economy gets back on track. Richards said he frequently hears from constituents that financial hardship has increased and that families are struggling. Once Parliament sessions return this fall, Richards will get to work as the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities will study and deliver a report on the effects of pregnancy and infant loss on grieving parents. Changes to employment benefits are anticipated by early next year. Learn more at blakerichards.ca.
