A suspicious vehicle complaint on Aug. 12 led to Airdrie RCMP arresting a woman after seizing several weapons and ammunition.
According to a press release, the detachment's officers responded to the Coopers Town Promenade parking lot at 8:19 a.m. in relation to a suspicious vehicle complaint. The officers located a 2003 BMW and arrested the female occupant on a Traffic Safety Act warrant held by Calgary Police Service.
"A search of the vehicle resulted in a several weapons and ammunition being found," the RCMP's release stated.
The weapons included a shotgun, crossbow, knife, snap gun, and hatchet. Stolen government identification and tools commonly used in break-ins, such as pry bars, bolt cutters and lock picks, were also found.
The release stated the license plate of the vehicle was also found to have been forged.
As a result of the findings, Ashley Candice Steele, a 32-year-old resident of Calgary, has been charged with several criminal offences, including two counts of possession of break-in instruments, unlawful possession of an identity document, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. She also faces charges of possession of a firearm in an unauthorized place, uttering a forged document, and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
According to RCMP, Steele was remanded into custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on August 25.
