Airdrie RCMP is sharing a number of tips as more seasonal vehicles take to the road this Spring.

The Airdrie RCMP is sharing a number of motorcycle safety tips, after a teenager was stopped on an electric-powered motorcycle in traffic with no license plate.

"The teenage male has been charged with multiple traffic offences, including driving without registration or insurance," an RCMP press release stated. "All vehicles on public streets, roadways, sidewalks, and bridges – including electric-powered motorcycles – are subject to the Traffic Safety Act and its legislation."

According to the release, it is important for residents to understand traffic safety rules as more seasonal vehicles begin taking to the roads.

The RCMP's press release reminds that electric motorcycles or mopeds are not permitted on sidewalks or in bike lanes and must stay on the far right of any road,  except when turning left. Operators must have a license, registration and insurance.

For electric scooters, as legislation for rented or shared scooters varies between municipalities, RCMP is asking the public to refer to locally specific laws and guidelines.

"Operators do not require a license, insurance, or registration," the release stated. "Personal e-scooters may only be used on private property."

Electric power-assist bicycles are permitted in bike lanes or must stay on the far right of any road, except when turning left. Operators do not require a license, registration or insurance.

Lastly, off-road or all-terrain vehicles are not permitted on public roadways or in ditches unless granted specific permissions.

"Operators must have registration and insurance," the release stated. "A license is only required if operators are permitted to drive on roadways."
