ST. ALBERT, Alta — Carter Savoie is making a lot of moves on and off the ice these days. The Edmonton Oilers announced last week they had signed the St. Albert native to a three-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2021-22 season. He was the team’s fourth-round selection (100th overall) in the 2020 NHL draft.

It was only a month ago that the left-shooting left-winger signed an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2021-22 season with the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors in California.

Before that, he had a stellar season with the Denver Pioneers, helping lead them to the 2022 NCAA National Championship. In his sophomore season, he tied for the team lead and was fourth in the NCAA with 23 goals in 39 games. That also made him a nominee for the Hobey Baker award as that league’s best player. In the Frozen Four tournament, Savoie scored in three of Denver's four games, including the game-winner in the regional final and the overtime goal to defeat the mighty Michigan Wolverines in the national semifinal. The Pioneers went on to take the school's ninth title.

Overall, Savoie had 36 goals and 29 assists in 63 career NCAA games. Measuring in at 175 centiemtres and 87 kilograms, the 20-year-old was on the NCHC All-Rookie Team in 2021.

According to Twitter user CapFriendly, Savoie will receive a minor league salary of $80,000 while the rest of his Oilers deal breaks down to $832,500 with a $92,500 signing bonus for each of the three years.

Neither Savoie nor a representative from the Edmonton Oilers were available for comment.
