The shooting death of a woman in Calgary has devastated her Okotoks family.

Jamie Scheible, 23, was found by police officers with a gunshot wound the evening of April 7. She later passed away from her injuries in Foothills Hospital.

On April 12 Calgary Police Services issued a warrant for 37-year-old Gerald Russell Frommelt

"After further investigation, we have determined that the victim and accused were recently in a relationship and we believe this to be a domestically-motivated homicide," said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta with the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. "This is a tragic death and we are asking the public to help us locate Frommelt to help bring justice to Jamie’s family."

Scheible attended Foothills Composite High School. Her Facebook page said she is from Okotoks, but according to the police press release she was living in Calgary.

Scheible’s family provided a statement that was released through Calgary Police Services.

“We are devastated by the loss of our sweet daughter Jamie,” the statement reads. “She was the most amazing, loving and kind person who was always helping others. She was beautiful, free-spirited, quirky and funny, and always brought a smile to our faces. She is beloved by many friends, and was the best mother, big sister, daughter and granddaughter. We adore her and are overwhelmed with grief. We are asking for our privacy to be respected at this time as we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of our amazing daughter.”

The statement from police said they believe the shooting of Scheible is believed to be targeted.

“We continue to investigate this fatal shooting and the motivation has yet to be determined,” said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta. “Our investigators believe this was a targeted incident and do not believe it to be random.”

A GoFundMe has been started on behalf of the family to cover funeral costs and can be found here.

Anyone with information about Scheible’s death is asked to call CPS at 403-266-1234.
