The role of Cochrane’s Community Peace Officers has been changing with the evolving COVID-19 situation.
Peace Officers are tailoring their duties to work in partnership with public health inspectors, while continuing to prioritize public education.
As of March 25, 2020, the province allows officers to take enforcement action if it is deemed appropriate.
Sergeant Frank Borsos, Municipal Enforcement manager says while the topics might shift, education is always their first action item. “Peace Officers are working with provincial health inspectors to respond to questions and complaints about businesses that should be closed by now,” he says. ““Our officers are out in the community making sure everyone knows the new rules related to the COVID-19 public health emergency.”
Officers are also on local pathways and in parks and playgrounds to reinforce safety messages to promote ways we can all help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Community Peace Officers continue to respond to regular calls for service and public inquiries on a priority basis, as well as educating the community on the local and provincial COVID-19 response.
