WINNER: Leah Milton & Jean Fergusson $2,360

“It’s a really great bright spot following a long year.”

Leah Milton and her sister Jean Fergusson, are the newest members of the 50/50 winner’s club in Curling Alberta’s 50/50 raffle. Since the onset of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, they have bought one $20 ticket every day. “This morning when I found out I had won, I phoned my sister and asked if she wanted to come in on the 50/50 tickets with me,” said Leah. “She said ‘yes’ as I knew she would and I told her that was the right answer, because I won the pot, so half of it was hers.”

Growing up in a very sports-minded family, Leah, Jean and their three siblings were each involved in sports, and a love of curling was shared by all. “I’m from Saskatchewan and our whole town was a curling hometown,” said Leah. “If a bonspiel was on, all the stores were closed and they each had signs saying ‘gone curling’. Everybody was at the rink.”

Their home town of Eston was even featured in Gone Curling: A Winter Tale, a short 10-minute film produced by the Film Board of Canada in 1963. The slapstick movie follows a stranger arriving in town to find it virtually deserted, with all the residents at the local rink. Not too far-fetched from something that we would see today in any small curling community across the Prairies.

Leah is a retired Occupational Health Nurse and has a love of travel that began at an early age when she took a one-way ticket to New Zealand. Despite her travels to many beautiful destinations around the world, it remains her favorite place and she dreams of the day she can return and spend six months there. Winning the Tuesday’s 50/50 raffle with her sister will be a step towards making that dream come true.

“It’s a really great bright spot following a long and dreary year,” said Leah. “It’s very exciting.”

Congratulations Leah and Jean, and a sincere thank you to the thousands of dedicated curling fans for supporting Curling Alberta’s 50/50 raffle. More than ever, we have seen how the power of sport brings communities together and inspires the athletes of tomorrow. Together, we can continue that momentum as we look to build a significant legacy for our sport and help local curling communities emerge stronger than ever.

50/50 tickets are available each game day of the Princess Auto Players’ Championship. Tickets can be purchased from 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM MT Buy Your Tickets Here! (LL#570518)
