Calling all singers.

Looking to expand your audience beyond the confines of your shampoo bottles and shower walls?

Cool Choir is looking to bring out your inner pop rock star, with ample space available in their Outer Calgary North division.

With no auditions and no requirement to read sheet music, the only prerequisite is a love of music – even if your range isn't expansive or your tone is off.

Due to the tremendous success of the European concept choir in Calgary, creative director and founder Jamie Serafi has launched a north division – specifically for those living in Airdrie, Cochrane and Hawkwood, NW Calgary.

"I brought this concept to Canada from the UK three years ago and launched it and it has exploded," explained Seraf, an arranger, composer and lifelong musician.

"We basically welcome everybody into the room who can speak."

Serafi said it's "incredible" what transpires when a room filled with people with less than perfect pitch and no professional training come together in song.

With mounting evidence that song heals the soul, Serafi and his team credit the success of Cool Choir to a desire among people to get out, express themselves and meet other people in a fun, interacting and low pressure environment.

Cool Choir can be seen singing at outdoor festivals, markets, flash mobs and just about anywhere people gather in public spaces.

Tyler Fitzgerald was brought in by Cool Choir last month as the director for Outer Calgary North.

Following years of international performances and living abroad, the bass-baritone opera singer decided to switch gears, explore his love for teaching and settled on Cool Choir and Calgary to do just that.

"I like the concept of people coming together ... it's cool to watch people flourish in that environment," said Fitzgerald.

"We're looking to build it. The effect we are seeing it has on peoples' lives is really significant," added Fitzgerald.

A free "taster session" also lets the curious creatives try before they buy. And those who wish to climb aboard the musical bus can do so at any time during the 10-week sessions that the choir program runs.

Following a free taste, the cost is $20 per week. For Outer Calgary North there are three rehearsals each week – at St. Mary's Church in Cochrane on Monday evenings, Daybreak Community Church in Airdrie on Tuesday evenings and United Church in Hawkwood on Wednesday evenings.

Those who sign up are free, although not obligated, to go to all three rehearsals each week, all included in the $20 weekly cost.
