Cardiff brings his diverse act back to Cochrane

Guess who’s back in town? The well-travelled troubadour, who makes the audience as much a part of the show as the wandering bard himself — Craig Cardiff returns to Legacy Guitar and Coffee House Oct. 16.

Cardiff has played at ‘venues’ across Canada that give new meaning to the word ‘diverse.’ Prisons, backyards, churches, living rooms, camps, you name it. But it’s his dynamic with people, not the choice of stage, which really defines his music.

“Everyone’s got a story and it’s about finding a way to be open to that,” Cardiff told the Eagle back in March before his last show in town.

That means a back-and-fourth with the audience that’s not just banter. Cardiff incorporates those stories into his songs, making the experience highly personal and always changing. His ‘Book of Truths,’ which has audience members write down their thoughts and tales, becomes a lively conduit for artist and crowd.

Cardiff has released 16 albums and received critical praise, with Juno and Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations in 2012. He’s worked with producers such as Ben Leggatt (Faraway Neighbours, Ben Herman) and Andre Wahl (Hawksley Workman).

He’s opened for acts such as Blue Rodeo, Gordon Downie (Tragically Hip), Hawksley Workman, Sarah Slean, Skydiggers, 54-40 and more.
