Shelby Morisseau’s dreams have a way of finding her.

Since she was old enough to walk, she has been a dancer.

“I couldn’t sit still, I was always singing and dancing,” the former Eurhythmics Dance Studio member said of her childhood. “When I was old enough and I got competitive, that’s when I knew what I wanted to do.”

That passion has blossomed into a thriving career that began on stage dancing in the iconic nutcracker production with the Jeunesse Classique Ballet Society, when she was 16.

It’s an example of what Morisseau, who is now 20, describes as things having a way of falling into place for her.

“My first dream was I wanted to be a ballerina,” she said, adding she feels circumstances seemed to set her in the right direction.

Today, her stage is different, dancing with illFX Entertainment she has shifted to an urban style and is behind the camera doing music videos. Her hope is her new calling will one day lead her to a bigger career in the music industry.

To date, she has four videos under her belt – with artists Eugenio, an Alberta-based singer/songwriter, and J.A. and Jay, both Korean artists with followings in parts of Asia, including Japan.

Morisseau was the lead dancer in Eugenio’s video for the title Step Back and she described the experience as a lot of fun but awkward at first.

“I had never met him (Eugenio) before and I was dancing with him,” she said. “But it was lots of fun, like hanging out with a bunch of friends shooting a music video.”

Now, Morisseau is setting her sights toward cities where the music scene is bigger than what Alberta currently offers. She says she wants to first head west to Vancouver and then possibly to the music and movie capital of the world, Los Angeles.

That being said, in similar fashion to achieving her previous goals, Morisseau said she’s not going to force herself into something if she’s not ready.

“I am just going to do what comes my way and follow the next path,” she said. “I’m really optimistic.”

When asked to dream as big as possible, Morisseau said she would love to be on stage with Rihanna one day.
