It's officially spring time. With the calendar passing March 20 the highlighted date for the first day of spring in Canada, the Town of Cochrane is gearing up with many events in the next few months to celebrate the warm weather.
MARCH 21
Tonight will start off the fun with the S.K. Wellington Band at Half Hitch Brewing Company at 7 p.m. The band is comprised of Ian Love on drums, who has been hitting the kit since age 10 while being influenced by Vic Mercado and Steve Gadd. Mike Shareski is on the bass guitar and singer ... he has been playing since age 12 and started on guitar then switched to bass to avoid competition. Currently studying jazz bass at Mount Royal. Lead singer Sarah Kemmers puts the "S.K." in the Wellington. Kemmers is the songwriter and arranger for the tunes ... she picked up a guitar in high school after being classically trained in piano. To round out the group is electric guitarist Gord Allert. Allert has been playing guitar since he was a young lad. His biggest influences are Joe Bossama and Keith Urban. He also has an extensive guitar collection.
March 22
The four members of Curious George will be playing at the Venue Bar and Grill on March 22 and 23. They were all hatched in different parts of Canada and eventually found each other when their intertwining paths brought them together in Calgary. Some might call it divine Intervention. Each of them has an extensive music resume consisting of touring and recording of both cover songs and original material. Their music has taken these talented blokes from the small town intimacy of Smithers, B.C., to the much larger stages of New York City and everywhere in between. The ability to play anything from pop to country to funk to rock to metal and back to pop make Curious George the most versatile music making machine this side of Balzac. Four guys singing and playing their instruments live. The concert will start at 9 p.m.
MARCH 28
Simon King , ione of Canada's finest stand-up comedians, will be live at Half Hitch Brewery on March 28. Simon has numerous national television appearances including Comedy Network, CBC, CTV, TBS, Comedy Central to name a few and has appeared internationally at many events such as: HBO, TBS Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, the Seattle International Comedy Competition among others. Tickets are $20 per person and are available at Half Hitch and Rebel Comics.
APRIL 13
The Lions Club of Cochrane is hosting its second annual spring barn dance on April 13. They are pleased to welcome the well-known TC & Company to keep you dancing all night. There will be a bar, food and a 50/50 draw. Please join them once again and come on down to the Cochrane Lions event Centre in the heart of Cochrane. All funds raised go toward the 53rd annual Cochrane Lions Rodeo on labour day Weekend. Tickets are $20 per person.
