This musical romp was produced by the Grade 10 Theatre Academy class. The students took ownership of the play including directing, acting, stage craft, advertisement, etc. The “children” gave 23 lessons in such subjects as how to beg for a dog, how to torture your sister, how to act after being sent to your room, and how to laugh hysterically. It was a fast-paced, hilarious production that took its audience through the joys and sorrows of being a child.
How to Eat Like a Child was an original musical comedy television special that aired on NBC in 1981 with Dick van Dyke as the original “grown-up” alongside 15 children ranging in age from 7 to 13.
The Theatre Academy class will be doing more public presentations in mid-April. Watch the school’s website for details. You can also find these talented students and more participating in Cochrane High’s inaugural S.O.A.P OneAct Festival from May 13 to 16.
