Incorporating an upright bass, cello and jazz vocalist, the Spark Tour will make its way across Alberta and British Columbia for several dates, including a stop in Water Valley March 25.

Hailing from various parts of North America, Oliver Swain, Ben Sollee and Emily Braden will join together as a single act for a short five-day tour covering ground from Calgary all the way to Victoria, B.C. from March 25-29.

Previously, Swain played in the Water Valley area, impressing many of the locals including Water Valley Church Events Centre owners Kristine and Rick Sarsons.

“We heard him and thought he was fantastic,” said Kristine. “A very talented man.”

The unlikely trio originally met in Canmore during a workshop at the Canmore Folk Festival in 2013 and impressed audiences, including Brighton, U.K.-based theatre owner Peter Wrench.

According to Swain’s website, the trio will take turns on leads, while introducing original songs, as well as playing some popular favourites.

Sarsons was informed by Swain about his return to Alberta and took on the role of event coordinator, booking the Spark Tour for a show in Water Valley.

Sarsons said that the concert has generated a lot of interest from people outside of Water Valley, and they have had phone calls from people from the Canmore area as well.

The concert will be held at the Water Valley Church Events Centre. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via phone or at Redhouse Video and Gifts located in Water Valley. Doors are expected to open at 6:30 p.m. with the show commencing at 7:30 p.m.
