You are invited to Ambrose University’s virtual open house, which takes place on February 10 from 10am to 2 pm.

During this time, interested applicants can connect with professors, tour the campus virtually, learn about campus life, enter to win a $2,000 bursary, and submit a free application. The first 100 people to register for the open house receive a swag kit with a t-shirt, water bottle, and more.

Ambrose University’s journey started in 2007 after the Alliance University College and Nazarene University Collage decided to open an educational institution together. After moving to a 40-acre campus in 2008, Ambrose University opened the doors with the capacity to accommodate 1,000 students.

Programs are available through the Faculty of Arts & Science, School of Education, School of Ministry, and the Seminary.  As Ambrose University’s mission statement notes, “At Ambrose, students can study arts, sciences and theology alongside professional disciplines such as education, business and Christian ministry. These different disciplines are united by the quest for knowledge, wisdom, virtue, and service.”

Kalie Calverley, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions, elaborates, “Our faith is woven into everything we do – inside the classroom and out. We have weekly chapels, a thriving community life, and Christian faculty who bring faith into the classroom, regardless of the discipline.”

“Classes at Ambrose are small enough that professors know students’ names and welcome their questions and ideas, both inside and outside of class,” she continues, “In this close, connected learning environment, professors become mentors who can lend our students vital support as they learn and explore options for their future. Because of this, the quality of education is something that students just won’t get at a larger university.”

As with every post secondary institution in Alberta, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the university.

“Some classes are online, however we have tried to ensure our students still have the opportunity to learn in person through this time. Most of our classes are either in-person or are being offered in a hybrid format,” explains Calverley.

Ambrose University has laid out a detailed COVID-19 response to help protect students and staff. This response includes prioritizing the health and wellbeing of the staff, students, and faculty; following AHS guidelines; mandatory masks and hand sanitizer; testing and isolation depending on where you return to campus from, contract tracing, self assessments, and more. The rooms have been converted to single-only in residence, microwaves are unavailable in the food service area, and attendance at chapel is currently limited to the first 100 people.

Regardless of the restrictions, Ambrose University ensures that it meets the spiritual needs of its students, many of whom have choose the school for its faith-based curriculum. A statement on the university’s website notes, “Our Campus Chaplain is entrusted with fostering spiritual life and growth at Ambrose. By overseeing regular worship services and special events, selecting guest speakers, mentoring worship leaders and much more, the Chaplain encourages a dynamic and challenging spiritual atmosphere on campus. The Chaplain is also an educator, introducing students to a variety of forms of Christian religious expression through the use of liturgy and spiritual practices.”
