Easy Ways to Create Curb Appeal During the Summer

Learn some fast and easy ways to beautify the outside of your home this summer.
6-4 DIY Tips for curb appeal
Beautiful, blooming flowers add instant curb appeal to any front yard.

What is curb appeal? It’s an easy way for your home to make a great first impression and let visitors or prospective buyers know that the quality on the inside is just as lovely as it is on the outside. Summer time is one of the easiest times to show off the beauty of your home by creating curb appeal that just won’t quit.

Here are a few easy ways to create curb appeal during the summer. It’s not expensive to give the front yard a makeover and it is often easy to do it yourself.

Give everything a good wash

Winter and early spring can leave layers of dirt on any surfaces. Pressure washing cuts through the dirt and lets everything shine. Give siding, windows, sidewalks, and the driveway a good wash. This is an easy one to do yourself or hire someone for a day.

Plant new greenery, or add a few planting boxes

Fresh flowers, shrubs, or new trees can freshen everything up. Maybe you want new plants, or maybe just some new planters. There are lots of choices here!

Add paint

It has been said that nothing makes things new again like a fresh coat of paint. You can choose to paint everything, or just a part. Either way, paint always makes a difference. You can change the colour completely or just give the door a popping new accent colour. Clean, wash and paint the garage too. Local paint stores have paint samples and suggestions of what is trending this year.

Modernize and update lights and accessories

Even in summer, lighting in the evening can give your home a romantic, fresh look. Lights are also a deterrent for thieves or anyone else that might hang around after dark. Consider solar lanterns, or a new lighting fixture in the entryway. A well-lit front door is very welcoming at any time of the day.

What about other things out front? Accents in front of the home like house numbers, mailboxes, gutters, planting boxes or down spouts get old and forgotten. Maybe you have things in your front yard that you don’t even notice anymore. Freshen them up or rip them out and get something new.

Keep up with the maintenance

Sure, yard work is a lot of work, but it is worth it. Keep flower beds weeded, and the lawn freshly mowed. Rake leaves and keep everything watered.

Welcome

A new walkway is also a great idea. How about a nice stone path from driveway to doorway?  A welcome mat at your front door is a welcoming touch too.

When you keep up with maintenance outside of your house, it tells everyone that you care about your home and that same pride can be found indoors too.
