Any other viable solutions out there for Alberta's fiscal picture?

I would be very curious to know exactly what all the “boo-birds” out there (criticizing Jason Kenney’s new budget), have to offer up as a more viable solution to getting Alberta’s fiscal picture “back into the frame”!

We all know (at least those of us who still have a house, car and some money in the bank) that to manage your budget, income better be “higher” than expenses. The moment that ceases to exist, you end up with what I now call the “Notley Effect”! Not good at all.

It’s really easy to second guess those in charge and it’s even easier to call them down when they make those tough calls. At least this administration took “a hit themselves” first before asking us to do the same (that should have been your first clue people). I’m not sure that has ever happened in government before (other than Trump actually giving his whole salary to the military in the U.S. of A.).

The following widely known factoid fairly addresses what is clearly the root cause of our current situation. It boils down to the previous NDP government’s method of “maintaining Alberta’s lifestyle instead of tending to business”:

Alberta has racked up tens of billions of dollars in debt coping with the fallout from the great oil price crash of a few years ago. This was, in part, an ideological decision by Ms. Notley’s government. Rather than slash jobs and radically cut back on services (as her political adversaries suggested), the New Democrats decided to maintain public sector employment levels and stimulate the province’s battered economy with infrastructure investment using borrowed funds.

That about says it all. Unfortunately, we here in Alberta have a ton of folks with that same mindset and therein lies the problem. Try and apply the principles you use at home in tough times and see if they make sense at the provincial/federal level before complaining too loud!
