Apology to mayor warranted following 'cynical' letter to the editor

Dear editor: In a Feb. 19 letter to the editor in one of our local newspapers, Dan Cunin, yet again, is running for council in the 2018 election starting now. His enthusiasm to find fault at every turn of this new council is tiring at best.

Dear editor:

In a Feb. 19 letter to the editor in one of our local newspapers, Dan Cunin, yet again, is running for council in the 2018 election starting now. His enthusiasm to find fault at every turn of this new council is tiring at best.

To Cunin, I would ask that he takes a breathe, let the team form and gain direction before trying to undermine it every step of the way.

The recent letter by Cunin has a major fault that I feel he needs to apologize for: Challenging Mayor Ivan Brooker with comments such as, “Why is Mr. Brooker’s fiancé (Ms. Tracy Smith) in Ottawa in the first place? Was there any cost to the Cochrane taxpayer for Mr. Brooker and/or Ms. Smith’s trip? And, Are there other ‘irregularities’ that might have taken place under the guise of lobbying efforts?” This, to me, is borderline defamation of character and pure cynical speculation.

Instead of writing these kinds of comments to the papers, why doesn’t he spend his letter-writing efforts by emailing (or call) the mayor first to clarify the facts?

If his tirade turns out to be true, I will apologize publicly and in writing to Cunin for the criticism and applaud him for such excellence in fact finding on Mayor Brooker’s spending and personal ethics.
