Bigger not always better

Dear editor:

In response to the picture of the ‘impressive construction’ south of Cochrane last week, I wanted to share my opinion of this project.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more grotesque and narcissistic tribute to the owner’s ego in my life. Not to mention that it couldn’t be more out of place unless it was built in the middle of some of the slum areas of a third world country.

I’m not sure if it’s blatant flaunting of their extreme wealth, or if they’re trying to show up the Shaw residence that is found just to the north of it.

At least the Shaw home is built with the surrounding natural beauty in mind and easily fits against the backdrop of the Rockies.

This travesty of a ‘home’ is just ridiculous both in its size and style in such a natural setting. And the nine bay garage, not to mention the gatehouses that could house a small family, is so much overkill it would be funny if it wasn’t such a waste of money.

I mean, 29,000 square feet for a single family, when so many people are struggling to find affordable, clean and safe places to live, is really disrespectful and irresponsible.

I just hope this family realizes how out of place this compound is in such a beautiful, natural part of Canada. It’s ridiculous.
