Dear editor:

The 18th annual Cochrane Branches and Banks Tree Plant is behind us and as we reflect on the beauty and future impact of 600 new trees and bushes in Cochrane it is essential that we acknowledge those who contributed to yet another success.

This event relies heavily on the support and tremendous help from the Town of Cochrane, particularly the very enthusiastic members of the Parks department. The trees come from Bow Point Nursery and we know that they are very generous with the trees and bushes they supply.

The planting at the wetland alongside Highway 22 is a cooperative effort between Cochrane Toyota, the CEAC wetlands team and volunteers from Cochrane High. Speaking of volunteers, thanks to everyone who planted 500 rather large trees and bushes near the junction of the Jumpingpound Creek and the Bow River. It was amazing to see that many trees get planted in less than two hours.

To all the students, staff, and parents from Glenbow Elementary School who wrapped several trees along Big Hill Springs Creek to protect them from beavers, thank-you. A tip of the hat as well to Tim Hortons and Pro-H2O for their contributions.

Branches and Banks is excited to introduce our new partner, the Emerald Award winning The Carbon Farmer: thecarbonfarmer.ca.

Of course, none of this would be possible without all the work and dedication of the organizing committee, Valerie, Judy, Lyse, Brad, Kara, and Kim. Well done everyone and thank-you so very much.
