Dear Editor:

I was very pleased to see your paper chose to do an article on the re-opening of the Cave and Basin in Banff. I was also pleased that you emphasized Roland Rollinmud’s mural that was unveiled at that opening. I consider Roland as part of our community in the Bow Valley and also think his art is superb.

What can’t be seen easily in the paper are the many images of animals that are cleverly threaded into the background of the picture. I recommend to anyone going to Banff that they take the time to drop into the Cave and Basin, see the result of the renovations, and take some time to stand in front of Roland’s mural for a bit and take it all in.

I enjoyed touring the renovated facility and gained a few wide-eyed looks from the young and very capable guides when I described how I used to swim in the now concreted-over swimming pool. I am glad that they kept the outside of the structure the same as it was. It is a classic Banff structure. Regardless of the changes, I had many good memories from the 1950s come back to me as I walked around the place.

In closing I want to express my disappointment that I could not find any reference to this event in any other newspaper either locally or in Calgary. I think it was rather significant in our history here on the Bow and it was missed by many.
