Celebrate Volunteer Week by getting MADD

Dear Editor: I enjoyed Jack Tennant’s excellent article on volunteering in a recent issue of your newspaper.

Dear Editor:

I enjoyed Jack Tennant’s excellent article on volunteering in a recent issue of your newspaper.

Did you know that this week is National Volunteer Week? This week is Canada's chance to say thank you to the millions of people who volunteer their time each year, many of whom are in caring Cochrane and caring Calgary.

I am a volunteer, as the president of your local MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) chapter. As a not-for-profit organization, we couldn’t provide any of our services to victims of impaired driving without our wonderful army of supporters. On behalf of all charities, thank you for everything you do.

Volunteer Week is also a great opportunity to encourage new volunteers to come forward, especially in Cochrane where there is a growing movement of people wanting to eradicate drunk driving from our rural roads.

Al Lyon, a Cochrane resident, is leading the charge on our behalf, so if you want to make a difference, don’t put it off until next year’s volunteer week, contact us and become a part of the growing volunteer movement.

You can email Al at [email protected] or email MADD at [email protected].

As Jack wrote, “no community can exist without volunteers and Cochrane is so fortunate.”

Happy Volunteer Week, and thank you.

Terry Hughes,

president
