Coalition disappointed in school's new wind turbine proposal

Dear editor:

During the Sept. 13 community meeting, Cochrane High School indicated that a discussion was going to take place to assess whether amendments to the wind turbine proposal were needed based on the feedback from the community.

It was clear then, that to allay the concerns of many residents, some significant changes to the proposal would need to be made and a willingness to discuss alternatives would need to be shown.

The No Turbine in Town coalition is extremely disappointed at how far short this new proposal has come. We continue to be baffled that a respected school and school board would be so keen to disregard the views of so many community members and jeopardize its relationship with the community for the sake of a learning project whose aims could surely be achieved in a variety of alternate ways.

At this time we have over 125 members in our coalition that feel they will be negatively impacted if this turbine gets erected.

It is our intention to continue to object profusely to the proposed location and size of the turbine at every step of the application process.

In closing, we feel it is irresponsible for the school to proceed with this proposal with so many of the direct stakeholders opposed.
