Column too quick to point finger

Dear editor: I have to agree with most of Ryan McLeod’s Dec. 12 ‘rant.’ I say most, because he lost me when he started on the GlenEagles merge onto Highway 1A. I have never encountered a merge lane with a yield sign.

Dear editor:

I have to agree with most of Ryan McLeod’s Dec. 12 ‘rant.’

I say most, because he lost me when he started on the GlenEagles merge onto Highway 1A.

I have never encountered a merge lane with a yield sign. The two signs are mutually exclusive.

This merge lane where he refers to being ‘behind’ a vehicle merging onto the highway is kind of a sore spot for myself. I typically use this merge lane (no yield sign, Ryan) two to three times a day.

I cannot begin to count the number of times I see people behind me in my side-view mirror speed up to close the gap, follow the vehicle in front too closely to allow a safe merge and just generally feel that they have the right of way on the highway.

The fact is that you do not have the right of way and should have let the lady in the red 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan merge safely since you were behind her and obviously had better visibility of the situation.

I understand she was probably going quite a bit slower than you, but she was probably obeying the GlenEagles posted 50 km/hr limit...clearly putting you in your ‘idiot’ driver category on that one.
