Crude, Rude, Entitled Anti Social Behavior

The young people I know, or come in contact with, have always been polite, hardworking, and intelligent.
How many times have you heard that young people are rude, entitled, and anti social? This has never been my experience.

The young people I know, or come in contact with, have always been polite, hardworking, and intelligent. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about a subset of the seniors population.

About two months ago as I was exiting my car in the No Frills parking lot I witnessed a confrontation between a senior and another gentleman. The senior had jumped out of his car and was threatening to punch out the other guy because he had pointed out that HANDICAP parking was for people who had a sticker announcing a disability. I went over to the car and no sticker was obvious and then out of the corner of my eye I saw it tucked away in the corner of the dash. The senior was definitely at fault for the confrontation and should have apologized to the other gentleman who obviously made a well intentioned mistake.

A week later I was at the post office when a senior in a big truck drove up and parked in the HANDICAP spot. No sticker was obvious so I remarked that he was not supposed to park there without a sticker. He told me to mind my own business and as I was extracting mail from my box he shoved me, walked away, and then came back and punched me. I went outside to look at his truck as he disappeared into the night and noticed he had a sticker tucked away in the corner of the dash.

Why the over reaction? Last week, once again at the post office, a car drove up and parked in the HANDICAP spot. The driver proceeded into the building. I waited for her to leave the post office and then informed her that you must not park in a spot for disabled people without a sticker. She replied she had one but that it was illegal to have the sticker hanging from the mirror. I never saw any sticker. Finally today, once again at the post office, over the 10 minutes I was there three cars without HANDICAP stickers parked in the spots reserved for those who have a disability.

Now most of the seniors in Cochrane are not like these rude, angry, and self entitled misfits. To them I say take your anger out on a punching bag. Not your fellow disabled seniors. Just knock it off.

Sincerely,
