Gard earns praise

Dear Editor:

How ironic that days after writing his brave letter to the Calgary Herald, Ted Gard was “retired” from Rocky View County (RVC).

Gard’s letter exposed the tactics of the Fire Fighters Union with their action to gain more than $11,000 salary ($93,000) for the equivalent City of Calgary position ($81,000).

The cheap shot comment from former firefighter Dale Stone, “It has been a total disaster from the minute Ted Gard walked in there,” clearly shows his union mentality.

I for one, did not and do not want so called “collective bargaining” in RVC, especially when it excludes part-time and volunteer firefighters from serving. The insinuation that unless a firefighter is a member of the local union, he or she is not a capable nor worthy person. Get your head out of the sand Mr. Stone. Unions had their place in the 1800s, but we don’t want them nor do we need them in our RVC fire department.

Thank you Mr. Gard for your service and your willingness to let the general public know the truths behind our firefighting woes.
