Dear Editor:

Re: ‘Sawmill’s noise level at night frustrating.’

In response to Tracey Beeching’s letter about Spray Lake Sawmills’ noise (Cochrane Eagle, May 8):

Seriously people, time a reality check. You purchased a home below a sawmill and now you are complaining about the noise?

What did you think they would do — close down their business just to suit you? Didn’t you check into the neighbourhood prior to moving in? What about asking your realtor about the sawmill and its hours of operation?

Spray Lake Sawmills has been a major source of employment for this town for decades and it should not have to accommodate and cater to the whining of unhappy neighbours.

They were there first. If a developer is stupid enough to build a residential area within a stone’s throw of a noisy, busy sawmill, and people purchase the homes, then “so sad, too bad”…buyer beware.

This also goes for people who buy homes on escarpments or on flood planes (of which I am one). Nature will find a way and sometimes the dirt/hill gives way or there is a major flood. You take your chances. No one forced you to purchase your home in that particular location.
