We are watching Notley

On Feb. 5, Premier Notely graced the screens of Canadians via the CBC to talk about many things. One of the things she touched on was how she stands up for Albertans to the Federal Government. Of course, she has begun to say this because the public sees her friendship with Justin Trudeau noticing how many times the NDP have stood by and allowed Trudeau to run roughshod over our great province.

The Premier has said all the right things. But as we’ve always been told, actions speak louder than words. What you do when nobody is watching paints the proper picture of a person, and in this case, the proper level of support this NDP government has for our energy industry.

In June 2016, Justin Trudeau signed a methane reduction deal with US President Barack Obama and Mexican President Pena Nieto. You may recognize the names of two former presidents to the deal. Neither the US nor Mexico pushed forward with their commitments both President Donald Trump nor President Lopez Obrador. Yet Trudeau decided to move forward. Premier Notley agreed.

It was right before Christmas, when nobody was watching, the Alberta Energy Regulator released new methane regulations for the oil and gas industry. These new regulations, while complicated, essentially eliminated perfectly reasonable and adequate Alberta made methane regulations, which did the job required of managing emissions. But, of course, those adequate Alberta made regulations weren’t good enough for Justin Trudeau and he demanded change.

Together, Notley and Trudeau created a new methane regulation that is so onerous on industry it will cost countless jobs and cost upwards of $700 million to comply.

At no point did Rachel Notley tell Justin Trudeau to take a hike. At no point did Rachel Notley and the NDP tell Justin Trudeau to get out of our constitutional jurisdiction. The Alberta NDP government allowed the Trudeau Liberals to start shutting down our oil and gas industry. This is just one example of many where the NDP just stood by while her best friend, Prime Minister Trudeau, stepped on Alberta. She has proven through her actions who is her best friend.

As pipeline challenges continue to plague our province, and mainly because of Trudeau Liberal actions, Premier Notley finds the ability to lay blame – on former Prime Minister Stephen Harper. So not only does she blame someone who isn’t even in power anymore, she does so to specifically avoid blaming Trudeau.

Actions speak louder than words. We need a leader and a Premier that not only supports our lifeblood publicly, but through actions as well, especially when nobody is watching. Jason Kenney will be the best friend to Alberta, not Justin Trudeau.
