It’s time to get into the spirit of Christmas giving once again, as the Cochrane Activettes Share Your Christmas hamper program kicks into high gear.

Each Christmas, the women’s organization seeks to drum up enough food, clothing and gift donations to provide hampers that will enrich the Christmas experience for over 100 Cochrane and area families.

“We’re just getting started,” said Activette Ann Beatty. “We try to make sure we get good proteins to put in the hampers — canned meats, peanut butter.”

The women hope that two community events this weekend, the Cochrane Christmas Market at the RancheHouse on Nov. 24 and Cochrane Light-Up from 5-7 p.m. throughout downtown Cochrane, will add to the bounty of collections that are needed to stuff hampers.

The recent Fall Food Drive on Oct. 13 produced 680 boxes to replenish the Food Bank shelves.

“We appreciate all the donations we get from the community,” said Beatty.

Last year, the Christmas hamper campaign provided 115 hampers; in 2010, 140 hampers were given out.

Anyone requiring a Christmas hamper must contact the Activettes ahead of time for the Dec. 22 hamper pick-up.

The Activettes can be reached at 403-932-9290; monetary donations can be mailed to Box 535, Cochrane, Alta., T4C 1A7.
