Alt-country-rock singer/songwriter, Leeroy Stagger, will be adding Legacy Guitar and Coffee House to his mile-long list of tour stops this May 10 at 8 p.m.

The nine album-deep songman will be putting on an acoustic duo show, joined by Matthew Robinson (lead guitar, background and harmony vocals).

The 31-year-old Victoria, B.C. native has called Lethbridge home for several years, setting a musical pace that has seen him touring every province, every state and much of Europe for many years now.

“I’ve been really fortunate to meet a lot of my heroes and play with a lot of them,” said Stagger, noting his three recent acoustic shows in the U.S. alongside Steve Earle as a ‘dream come true’. “But there’s a lot of unsung heroes out there.”

When his brim isn’t overflowing with his own music, Stagger is producing the work of other artists from Alberta and beyond in his studio, The Rebeltone Ranch, including the likes of Alberta roots artists Dave McCann and John Wort Hannam.

His own 10th release, slated to begin recording next month, will feature Calgary-based guitarist and producer, Russell Broom, at the helm.

“I just really liked him as a person and as a player and it solidified when we sat down together — he’s a monster guitar player and a great arranger.”

“I think it’s really healthy to not produce your own work…for me, I’ve always found it beneficial to work with a producer,” explained Stagger.

“I’m not so narcissistic that I need to produce my own work,” he laughed, adding that he anticipates a spring 2015 release that will be more roots-flavoured than his 2013 release, Truth Be Sold.

“There’s a punk rock ethos in everything I’ve done…but I love exploring different genres…at the end of the day, I’m a songwriter,” said Stagger, who refuses to pigeonhole himself as any one sort of artist.

“Pretty much everything I write has a fair bit of me in there — something I’ve seen or felt.”

The standout track on the next album for Stagger is “Something Beautiful”, a co-write with P.E.I. songwriter, Dennis Ellsworth.

“I was so tired of being dark and negative and playing songs in minor keys so I didn’t wake up the baby (one-year-old son, Guthrie) and I set out to write this.”

With a flurry of tour dates on the foreseeable horizon, fans should anticipate more to come from Stagger.
