The annual Foothills Art Club (FAC) Fall Show and Sale will be set into motion this Oct. 20 at the Cochrane Curling Club.

Located at 109-5th Avenue West, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes free admission and an opportunity for early shoppers to get the jump on their Christmas lists.

“FAC is keen to present for viewing some incredible art in a wide variety of themes and mediums from our talented and multicultural group,” explained FAC president and member artist, Jeff MacKenzie.

FAC artist, Janette Whittle, who is also a member of the Cochrane Art Club, has been working at her craft for more than 40 years — exploring a number of mediums, themes and techniques.

One of her watercolour pieces, a snow scene, has also been selected as the door prize for this year’s fall show.

“I’ve painted for a long time — in pastel, watercolour, pen and ink and acrylic. . . I think pastel is my favourite,” said Whittle of the soft chalk medium.

“It’s been a nice outlet for me. . . My subject matter is something done best in certain mediums — old buildings and portraits in pastel, nature and landscapes in watercolour.”

For Whittle, belonging to a community of like-minded artists is her inspiration in itself.

“My association with the two art clubs wets my appetite to try different things...there’s always something new that the arts community is doing,” she said.

“Our shows are free to attend and much of the art is also available for purchase at very reasonable prices, including items from greeting cards to large paintings. Our artists are very pleased to meet with the public and discuss the art, techniques and inspirations,” said MacKenzie.
