It's official. A friendly new face will be walking the halls of Big Hill Haven. Tara McFadden has been welcomed on board by the Big Hill Haven family as the organization's first fund development and public relations officer.

"We are glad to have Tara join the organization," said Ana Botelho Clark, co-chair at Big Hill Haven. "She has already brought new energy and ideas to the table. Her strong knowledge of Cochrane and area, combined with her past fundraising and community engagement experience with the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation, make her an excellent addition to our team."

McFadden's role will be leading in the creation of a hub-and-house women's emergency shelter in Cochrane. She will be fabricating a strategic plan for the construction and operation of the emergency shelter which will include leading the fund development strategy, establishing partnerships and acting as the public face of the Big Hill Haven's capital drive - duties she will be more than able to accommodate.

"I am truly excited to play a part in making Big Hill Haven a reality. Excellent work has been done to raise awareness of the need and to provide services to women and children dealing with domestic violence in Cochrane and area," said McFadden.

For a 20-bed shelter the price tag is estimated at $1.5 million and in order to qualify for federal and provincial grants, Big Hill Haven must have $500,000 or land committed to the project.

"The next step is to raise the $1.5 million needed to begin planned construction by 2021. It is a challenging and worthy goal," explains McFadden. "I have nine months to develop a strategy, raise funds and find a location. It will be a challenge, but I am confident that with the support Big Hill Haven has, it can be done."

The timeline for the project is roughly November 2019 to August 2020.
