Before schools let out for kidlets to kick back and put their feet up over the holidays, Bow Valley High (BVH) will be putting their Christmas production on to energize the school’s Christmas spirit.

The comedy Just in the Nick of Time runs on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., unveiling the story of how the hostile Humbug tries to sabotage Christmas by abducting Santa Claus.

“(I love) the many characters and scenes — there are a lot of ensembles in this production,” said director and BVH drama teacher, Jody Hogan.

With a cast of 25 vaudeville-type characters, Hogan is pleased to have an enthusiastic, mixed group of budding thespians to work with.

Fifteen-year-old Grade 10 student, Zoe Farrell, has been involved with BVH drama for the past two years and is enjoying her current role as a purple gumdrop in the upcoming Christmas production.

“I get to act like a little five-year-old kid,” laughed Farrell. “I love the freedom in drama to be a character you wouldn’t otherwise get to be.”

Farrell, who was a cast member in previous BVH plays, such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Jungle Book, said this play offers a little something for everyone.

“I like how it’s a mystery aimed at little kids, but there are some funny jokes that maybe only the adults would get, so it’s really a play for everyone.”

Tickets to Just in the Nick of Time are $5, available at the school or by phoning 403-932-9005.

Following the production, Hogan will be presenting an eclectic dance recital at the Cochrane RancheHouse on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m., featuring some 20 BVH dancers from Grades 9-12.

“I have a very keen group of dancers,” said Hogan, adding that only one out of her cast of 20 is an experienced dancer.

Hogan said the evening will feature an entertaining array of numbers from African and burlesque to Broadway and hip-hop.
