Cochrane RCMP officers will be out on the water and in the back country this summer ensuring people are obeying that law and staying safe.

Staff-Sgt. Tom Kalis said a number of officers have been trained to do both boat and quad patrols, and will be out in conjunction with their provincial park and fish and wildlife partners - looking for everything from alcohol and firearms offences to general safety.

Kalis said the focus for officers when they are on the water or hitting the trails is safety for everyone involved.

While there will be periodic patrols on the water and on quads in places like Waiparous as staffing allows, Kalis said officers are putting the final touches on plans for their two major enforcement days of the season - the July and August long weekends. He added there will also be a few special events held in both Cochrane and Morley.

In the past, Cochrane RCMP have also had officers out on bicycles, but this year Kalis said there are not plans for a bike patrol.
