Stalwart community supporter Dan Kroffat has stepped up to help the Cochrane Cenotaph make its final push toward raising the last $5,000 to complete upgrades that began in 2017.

Kroffat who was the brain behind the creation of the theft-proof donation box that popped up in local businesses for the past two years is reinventing that idea to help the cenotaph.

“We’re going to unveil Canada’s biggest donation box,” he said, adding the box was constructed by Roy Genung, father of Cochrane’s mayor Jeff Genung.

While Kroffat isn’t revealing all the details of the new box, he commended Roy for the craftsmanship and is inviting Cochranites to the Cenotaph on Oct. 7 at noon to see the creation and be among the first to donate.

Kroffat has also partnered with McDonald’s to help raise money and says the restaurant chain has agreed to donate $1 from the sale of items on Oct. 12 to the cause.

To maximize the effort, Kroffat says he hopes to see community businesses sign on to host the box between Oct. 7 and Oct. 12 when he plans to open the box and reveal how much was raised.

The final phase of the project includes park benches to make the space more community oriented and a naming stone.
