One person is dead following a single-vehicle collision Sept. 14.

A black Dodge Challenger was westbound on Burma Road, just west of Bearspaw Road, when it lost control, veered off the road and went through a number of fence lines, according to a media release from Cochrane RCMP. The accident occurred at about 3 a.m.

The driver, who was the lone occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The name of the deceased, a 23-year-old male from Calgary, has not been released.

The Challenger was stolen from Calgary, said Cpl. Mel Calahasen. Calgary Police Service is investigating the theft. Calahasen said speed was a contributing factor to the crash. Cochrane RCMP is continuing to investigate the collision.

That same day, at about 6:50 p.m., Cochrane RCMP responded to another vehicle collision that left one person dead and another injured. A motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Highway 1 — about three kilometres west of Range Road 33 — when the driver lost control, causing the passenger to be thrown from the vehicle, according to Calahasen.

The passenger was struck by a vehicle following the fall from the motorcycle, he added.

The 58-year-old woman from Calgary was pronounced dead on scene. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Investigation into the matter is ongoing, but Calahasen said it is not believed that speed and alcohol are factors in the fatal collision. Rocky View Fire and EMS also attended the scene.

Anyone with information regarding either of these car crashes should contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.
