The 2018-2019 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) and diploma examination results have been released and indicate that students in the Calgary Catholic School District continue to do well in comparison to provincial results. Cochrane's Holy Spirit Catholic School and St. Timothy High School are included in the district's results.

"We are very pleased with the strong results that our students experience in their learning," said board chair, Mary Martin.

"Student success is a key priority for our district, and we know how important our teachers and staff are in ensuring the continued growth and development of our students. Our teachers and staff cultivate supportive learning environments and meet the diverse needs of our students, and we are very thankful for their dedicated efforts."

The results measure a school jurisdiction's performance that is made up of a variety of data sources including parent, teacher and student surveys and provincial test results.

The results found that 86.9 per cent of the district's students graduate in three years, which is 7.8 per cent above the provincial average of 79.1 per cent.

70.6 per cent of the students enter a post-secondary facility, which is 11.6 per cent higher than provincial rates.

68.6 per cent earn an average of 75 per cent or higher in any of the accepted Grade 10, 11, or 12 courses. This is 3.8 per cent higher than the provincial average of 64.8 per cent.

The dropout rate is 1.2 percent compared to the provincial rate of 2.6 per cent.

82.2 per cent of the district's First Nations, Métis and Inuit students graduate in three years which is 25.6 per cent above the provincial average of 56.6 per cent. The dropout rate among the First Nations, Métis and Inuit students is 3.3 per cent in comparison with the provincial rate of 5.4 per cent.

For the achievement tests (Grade 6 and 9) the district scored above the province in the acceptable standard and standard of excellence. Grade 9 PATs written in French scored above the acceptable standard in the province in all four areas and higher than the province in the standard of excellence in two subject areas.

Diploma exams see the district's students continuing to perform well in comparison to the province. For example, 5.1 per cent higher in Chemistry 30 in acceptable standard and 4.5 per cent higher in Physics 30 in standard of excellence.

Participation rates are also higher in eight of 11 diploma courses.

“At Calgary Catholic, we continue to work toward building a culture of champions,” says Chief Superintendent Gary Strother. “Being a champion means that each and every student feels that there is a supportive adult in their school that they can turn to. We truly believe that each of our students can experience success and this championing contributes to the excellent results we continue to see at Calgary Catholic. Our dedication to understanding and supporting each student’s learning needs allows students to be successful during their educational journey and into their future.”
