COCHRANE— In response to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting groups’ ability to hold in-person gatherings, the Cochrane Art Club is planning a virtual art show from April 24 to May 30.

The show will feature art from the club’s 29 members and includes pieces on a wide variety of subjects and mediums.

“Our members do a lot of western, wildlife, still life, landscapes,” said board member Annabelle Denson. “There’s a variety of mediums— Oil, acrylic, pastel, drawing.”

Denson said she expects to see roughly 100 pieces online for the virtual art show.

Several of the members have been a part of the club for more than 25 years. The club itself is more than 60 years old.

The club usually hosts two in-person shows each year, one at the Alliance Church in November, and one at the Cochrane RancheHouse in May.

This year, with COVID-19 casting an uncertain shadow over the future, the virtual art show might be in addition to an in-person show in May, or replace it entirely, Denson said.

The last in-person show at the RancheHouse was in May 2019.

“The virtual show is in addition to our in-person shows, and conceivably will be instead of our in-person show if we’re not able to go forward with it,” she said.

Denson said that many of the members of the club are very excited to be hosting the show.

“We’re all thrilled. We just held an online workshop with a local artist and I think we had 13 or 14 members sign up for it. I think everybody is very excited to get back to work and take workshops and learn together. There’s a lot of interest in the in-person show and the virtual show,” she said. “We’re very excited and we’re hoping that the COVID restrictions allow us to hold our virtual show, and the virtual show will hopefully fill in the gap if we’re unable to.”

The Cochrane Art Club is largely funded by memberships sales, and the club is always looking for artists of all talent levels to join. The membership includes access to workshops, mentoring and group painting sessions throughout the year.

The Cochrane Art Show will be featured online at cacvirtualsale.com/.
