Free Food Shed hosts Garden Party

Taking advantage of the harvest season, Cultivate Cochrane is partnering up with the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area for a new initiative with the Free Food Shed. The next instalment in their series of Garden Parties takes place at the shed at St. Andrew’s United Church on Thursday (Aug. 26) from 5 to 7 p.m. In an effort to fill the shelves with more fresh produce, they will be accepting donations from anyone who has a surplus from their garden. There will also be representatives from Cultivate Cochrane there to share gardening stories and answer gardening-related questions.

Cochrane and Rocky View County lift Fire Advisory

Fire Advisories put in place for both Cochrane and Rocky View County last week were lifted on Aug. 23 thanks to improving conditions in temperature and precipitation. With a much cooler forecast and more rain still in the future, officials made the decision to lift the ban. Permit burning is also allowed again, but anyone who plans to get out camping is cautioned to check other areas that may still be at risk of fire due to poor conditions.
