Cochrane in Brief

Richard’s Report

Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards is hosting a virtual town hall on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m., inviting his constituency to weigh in on Canada’s financial situation. Typically, around this time of year, members of the Banff-Airdrie riding would be invited to attend pre-budget consultations, giving community members a chance to voice their opinions and priorities for the upcoming budget. Due to COVID-19 no in-person consultations are possible right now. To attend RSVP at blakerichards.ca/townhall by Friday (Jan. 22). If you are unable to attend, you can still have your opinion heard by filling out the virtual budget survey at blakerichards.ca/virtual-townhall-survey/.

Kiwanis seeking volunteers

The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane and Area is looking for volunteers to join its ranks, and is hosting a virtual information session for those interested. The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane and Area is an organization dedicated to providing children in the community with everything they need. Over the past year the organization donated bikes to families, held its annual Christmas Toy Project, providing toys for kids in Cochrane, supplied hand sanitizer to many families and more. To attend the virtual information session, send an email to [email protected] for login and session details.

Unpacking the social impact of COVID-19

The Town of Cochrane’s Social Recovery Task Force is continuing to explore how COVID-19 has affected community members and the road to social recovery with a virtual speaker series. Renowned Canadian speaker and psychologist Dr. Judy Carrington will be coming to town to discuss the first topic in this year’s speaker series— Grief and the Pandemic. Carrington has treated and assessed patients for the past 15 years and will be joining the Town of Cochrane and Family and Community Support Services for this virtual talk on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. To join the free online session head to Facebook.com/CochraneProgramsActivitiesOpportunities/.
