COCHRANE IN BRIEF, January 23

Cochrane in Brief

SUPPORT WALK

Join the Cochrane and Area Hospice Society every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. for a 45 minute walk outside. The event takes place at Spray Lake Sawmill Family Sport Centre and if weather doesn't cooperate, the walk will be moved indoors. Participants have the option of continuing the conversation and socializing at a local coffee shop afterward. The walk isn't intended as a therapeutic group, but provides participants with an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature and companionship with others who are on a similar journey. The walk is free. For more information on the group visit their website at www.cochranehospicesociety.ca.

LIVE MUSIC AND COFFEE

Ah, coffee and live music, they go together like peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese, milk and cookies. On January 25, Good Earth Coffeehouse will be welcoming musicians from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday. The live music series will be an opportunity to enjoy acoustic sounds from local talents within Cochrane while sipping on a joe. Jason Cote will be first to take the stage on the 25th followed by K.T. Calcutt on February 1, Martin Russell on February 8 and Ray Goodship on February 15. Start making Good Earth your new chill spot on Saturdays' and make sure you bring some friends.

BETTER YOU

If you are looking for a ways to combat your addiction and aid your mental health journey why not try Paths to Wellness workshops. Each week the program offers different topics and speakers and allows for plenty of mental health information as well as support. The sessions include a 45 minute presentation followed by an opportunity to engage in questions and discussion. Start making the positive changes you may need by putting yourself out there. The workshop gets underway from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cochrane Community Health Centre on January 27. The event is free to those who are interested in attending. Call the Cochrane Addiction and Mental Health Clinic to register at 403-851-6100.

MEOW IT FORWARD

On Jan. 25 - 26 all adoptions of cats six months or older will be by donation only at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS). All donations will go toward Norman's Fund. All purchases from Norma's Nook will also be directed to Norman's Fund. Norman was the society's longtime resident cat for 15 years. His contribution to CAHS was a testament to all 'street cats' and is why the society believes they are deserving of opportunity and a loving home.

PLAN YOUR CAREER

Attend the Career Planning workshop on Thursday, Jan. 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the HomeStead Apartment Building at 209-2 Ave. West. The workshop will introduce participants to career exploration tools and help pinpoint career values and motivations. For more information visit
