Cochrane in Brief

Initial utility connections completed on Hwy 1A

The Town of Cochrane completed the construction of deep utility connections beneath Highway 1A on Friday (July 23). The construction of the upgrades was completed during overnight shifts, causing a detour through downtown, which is no longer in effect. Construction crews will begin preparing for utility upgrades beneath Centre Avenue, between Highway 1A and Powel Street. A new detour for southbound traffic on Centre Avenue is expected to be established as the work continues. More details will be released prior to the beginning of the project.

Art at the library

In association with The Alberta Foundation for the Arts and The Alberta Society of Artists, The Cochrane Public Library will be installing a temporary art display from July 29 to Aug. 25, featuring works from the collection of Albertan artist John Snow. The exhibition, called In Good Company, is a collection of images created using a lithography press which were created over the course of Snow’s career from the 1950s to the 1990s. The installation is part of the Arts Travelling Exhibitions program, which is an initiative by the Alberta Foundations of the Arts to make Albertan-made art accessible in all corners of the province.

Labour Day Parade

The Labour Day Parade is back this year on Sept. 6 in its traditional format and the Cochrane and Area Events Society is looking for volunteers to help with various tasks associated with the event, and businesses to register a float in the parade. Available volunteer roles include check-in and direction, pre-parade entertainment support, barricade set up and monitors and float judges. To find out more about how to register to be in the parade, or how to volunteer to help out with the event, visit cochraneevents.ca/.
