Cochrane in Brief

KIDS FOR SENIORS CONTEST

While many businesses, community spaces and organizations are reopening and welcoming back members of the public, many vulnerable members of society, like senior citizens, remain isolated. To ease the woes of their continued isolation, the Cochrane Hospice Society is hosting the Cochrane Kids for Seniors Contest. The Cochrane Hospice Society is asking kids to draw pictures, write letters, or make cards that will be delivered to senior’s facilities in town. Each submission will be entered to win a draw for Cochrane Movie House coupons. Draws will occur July 10, 17, 24, and 30. Submissions should be made with a temporary label that includes your name, age and contact information. Submissions can be dropped off at 3 West Terrace Drive, or arrange for a pickup by texting 403-461-3595.

FINDING WORK WORKSHOP

With so many out of work due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Wendy Baker Smith, Career Advisor at Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services is hosting a free Work Search and Cover Letter workshop via the video-conferencing app Zoom on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. The event is an in-depth look at the “hidden job market,” how to make connections from home and how to craft a targeted cover letter. To RSVP, or to find out more information about the event visit the Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services Facebook page.

COCHRANE PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING CLUB

The Cochrane Public Library has announced its plan to encourage kids to read with the launch of its Summer Reading Club program. The library’s treasure chest is back again this year, and full of prizes for young readers to win. After signing up for the Summer Reading Club, children or teens will be provided with a tracking sheet to log their reading hours. For each hour spent reading, the participant will win a prize. When the sheet is all filled up, the participant will be entered to win one of the grand prizes, which include Lego sets, a kid’s telescope, art sets and more. Visit cochranepubliclibrary.ca for more details and a full list of prizes.
