What's happening in Cochrane this week: COVID-19 in Cochrane Schools, the Swamp Donkey Musical Theatre is using innovative service to fundraise, and nominations are now open for the Order of Cochrane.

COVID-19 in Cochrane schools 

Two more schools have confirmed they have active COVID-19 cases. Cochrane High’s cases have been declared an outbreak, meaning they have had two or more positive cases in a two-week period. Cochrane High’s outbreak was declared on Saturday (Nov. 7). On Thursday (Nov. 5), Manachaban Middle School published a release notifying the public that a single case had been identified at the school. School officials said they planned to conduct a deep clean of the school before lessons resumed on Friday (Nov. 6). Rancheview School was removed from AHS’s watch list on Nov. 4, but was recently readded to the list on Monday (Nov. 9). 

Nominations open for the Order of Cochrane

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Order of Cochrane awards, the highest honour that the town can bestow on an individual. The annual award is presented by Mayor and Council to an individual who has had a significant impact in the development of the community. To nominate an individual, nominators must fill out either a hard copy or online form detailing how the nominee exemplifies the Town of Cochrane’s vision or demonstrates leadership, and how they have created a legacy of development in the community. To nominate an individual, visit cochrane.ca/. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 15. The award will be presented in January 2021 at the Cochrane RancheHouse during a Regular Council Meeting. 

Skip the Depot 

The Swamp Donkey Musical Theatre group from Bragg Creek is using Skip the Depot to raise money for its organization. Skip the Depot is an organization that picks up your bottles and cans for free and takes them to the bottle depot on your behalf. Now you can sign up to support your local theatre troupe. Visit skipthedepot.com/register/ and indicate during the sign-up process that you would like to donate your proceeds to the Swamp Donkey Musical Theatre.
